Stevoside is produced from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant, which originally grew in Paraguay and Brazil, was successfully introduced to China in 1970's. China is presently the largest domestic producer of Stevia rebaudiana, and the primary producer and exporter of stevioside worldwide.
